Submerged Aquatic Vegetation Mapping of Coastal Alabama in 2022

Dataset extent

Abstract

As part of the Alabama Submerged Aquatic Vegetation Restoration and Monitoring Program funded through the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council administered by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR), the Dauphin Island Sea Lab (DISL) contracted NV5 to conduct aerial imagery acquisition (30cm pixel resolution) across all of coastal Alabama and Old Dominion University to investigate the use of satellite imagery (3m pixel resolution) and semi-automated classification as a potential cost-saving option for SAV mapping and for years when aerial imagery is not available. SAV polygon delineation was conducted by the Dauphin Island Sea Lab.

Purpose

OVERALL PURPOSE: The purpose of these datasets is to provide an estimation of SAV habitat across coastal Alabama in 2022 (Tier 1), as well as SAV species, composition and visual percent cover (Tier 2).
