dc.description | As part of a study to understand the abundance and distribution of coastal pelagic fish species in the northern Gulf of Mexico, gill nets and beach seines were used in a two-year survey from 2011 - 2012. Both gear types were deployed multiple times per month from April to November each year at randomly selected locations ranging from Horn Island, Mississippi to Pensacola, Florida. All gill net captured fish were enumerated, measured, and identified to species. Only Florida pompano and Spanish mackerel species were kept from seines; all other organisms were released immediately. |
