ADCNR-MRD Reef Fish At-Sea Sampling Program (2016-2021)

Dataset extent

Data on fish captured via hook and line by recreational deep sea fishermen in the northern Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Alabama, beginning in 2016. Data include: identification, size, and condition of fish at capture; type of gear (reel type, line type, hook type, hook location in fish) and bait used to capture the fish; approximate time and location of fish capture (bottom habitat, depth, approximate coordinates); whether the fish was retained or released; weight, sex, and age of retained fish; whether and how released fish were unhooked, vented, or tagged; condition of released fish, and information on recaptures of previously tagged fish for estimates of released fish mortality rates.
